Here’s a harsh reality that not many experts with a job face.
You can have an incredible job, be crushing it at work, and still feel stuck when it comes to putting yourself out there.
You might be writing a book, building your brand, or pursuing a passion project in silence because you’re afraid of what people will think—especially your boss or colleagues.
You’re worried they’ll question your commitment, wonder if you’re distracted, or think you’re planning to jump ship.
The fear of offending someone, or worse, losing your job, keeps you from taking that next step.
But here’s the truth:
Your personal growth isn’t a threat to your professional life.
You can absolutely thrive in your career and grow as an individual—writing that book, sharing your expertise, building your personal brand.
The key?
Be open.
Talk to your manager or leaders.
Share what you’re up to, and be clear about your intentions.
If they don’t get it, that’s on them, not you. They may even support you on the flip side.
You’re allowed to have goals and dreams outside of the 9-5.
What you do in your own time, and what you share on platforms like LinkedIn, isn’t their business unless you’ve signed a contract that says otherwise.
Don’t stay quiet.
Don’t dim your light because of what others might think.
You owe it to yourself to show up fully, both at work and outside of it.
