The Business of Writing: Crafting a Tailor-Made Marketing Strategy for Authors

What many business authors don't realize.

The business of writing isn’t just about creating books, it’s largely about marketing.

Working as both an author and a marketing strategist for authors, I've seen firsthand how important a tailor-made strategy is for each book and each author.

Here are a few key takeaways I’ve gathered:

1. Understand your audience thoroughly: Remember that writing for yourself won’t always be appealing to your target readership.

Develop a clear understanding of who you are writing for.

2. Prioritize consistency over virality: Consistency boosts your visibility and credibility much more than temporarily viral content.

3. Leverage social proof: Displaying endorsements and reviews from industry influencers and readers can go a long way in convincing prospective buyers.

4. Diversify your marketing channels: Different platforms cater to different demographics.

The key is to identify which medium your audience favors - it could be anything from Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, Podcasts or even BookTube (YouTube for book lovers).

I have leaned into LinkedIn and YouTube to share my wisdom to help authors. What platform do you resonate with the most?
