Why Showing Up Matters More Than Selling

I used to be terrified of putting myself out there.

Especially on LinkedIn.

What if no one cared?

What if people ignored me?

What if I looked foolish?

So, I played it safe.

I’d post something, every now and then, cross my fingers, and hope someone noticed.

Sometimes they did. Most times, they didn’t.

I’ve lost way more sales than I’ve gained.

I’ve been ghosted so many times it feels like Halloween year-round.

But every loss taught me something vital: visibility matters more than the product.

I see so many authors and experts sharing their wins—the awards, the big moments.

That’s great, but people don’t just want to see the highlight reel.

They want to see YOU.

Here’s what I think actually moves the needle.

Show up daily, even when it feels like no one’s watching.

Talk about your work in a way that makes people care.

Try different marketing angles—LinkedIn, podcasts, YouTube, email—although, focus on one and explore it as much as you can.

Start where your target audience might be and lean into what feels natural for you—writing, or video.

Have an actual strategy that leads to real sign-ups, not just likes and comments.

Most people focus on selling.

Few focus on showing up.

The ones who stay visible?

They’re the ones who get hired, booked, and paid.
