Marketing for Authors: Start Here
Start here if you're an author who doesn't know what to do regarding marketing.
What is marketing to begin with?
Many define it differently.
I've realized that it's much simpler than I initially thought.
Marketing is so simple that it hurts.
Marketing is clear communication.
Communication is received through emotions first, followed by logic.
So, it's why stories matter so much; they carry emotion.
I know what you're saying in your head,
"Hussein, get to the bleeping point!"
Ok, three quick steps:
1) Get clear and identify your "them" and create an author offer.
2) Package this offer in a beautiful website that makes them feel they are heard and seen and want to connect, contact, subscribe, or follow you.
3) Show up for them online, share insights, recognize them, love and help them.
Connect with them, say hello to them, and get to know them. They will recognize these efforts and come to you, your work, your books, your events, and your services.
So, here's a story.
My amazing friend Anuradha Shroff, ACC, ICF, was on the brink of publishing when last year, the company she was publishing with and the one I worked for had a meltdown that impacted many.
Despite this, Anu was determined to get her book to the finish line, knowing it has tons of value for the people she seeks to help and serve.
Anu continued choosing the experts impacted by the fallout to help her push her book.
She reached out to me, checked on me, and wanted to be a part of
The Rising Author Community.
She hired me to help her with her marketing needs, from website to platform building.
Anu practiced what she preached in her book and her work overall: helping people feel heard, seen, and loved. She embodied this through her actions and commitments.
She dedicated the past four months of our collaboration to developing her marketing strategy, developing a new website, and growing her profiles.
I was on a call with Anu last week, and as we were getting ready to celebrate the launch of her book, website, and new brand, she stopped me.
She said, "I have some exciting news!"
"Anu C'mon, tell me everything!"
“I just worked out a deal that recouped all the costs of publishing my book, including your services.”
Jaw.
Drop.
Those words are powerful and impactful. Her book is hardly out yet, but her website just launched and already has what she needs in terms of workflow.
Simply amazing.
Her book doesn't have legs, so she still needs to add fuel to the fire to keep her name top of mind on those she seeks to impact.
Anu plans on staying consistent, sharing her expertise continuously, and growing her thought leadership.
Congratulations, Anu; thank you for allowing me to help on your journey! Cheers to you and your incredible work:
